February Fishing Report

Old man Winter has arrived in the South Carolina Lowcountry! While it may be cold, the fishing in Charleston, SC is still productive! This time of year our primary target is the Red Drum or Redfish. Due to the colder temperatures they are schooled up and holding in extremely shallow water. This time of year the water is “Gin Clear” which allows us to really see the fishing we are looking for. The ideal fishing situation is a calm and warm day of fishing around Low Tide. This forces the Redfish away from the grass and into shallower and a whole lot warmer water. While some schools of Redfish may be finicky, we will most likely find one that wants to eat.

Our Last Fishing Charter

This is true Flats Fishing this time of year! Over the past several outings we have been able to locate and “sightfish” these large schools. We’ve been fishing with a wide array of baits. Most of the time throwing artificial baits, but also using Blue Crab, Cut Mullet, and the Mighty Mud Minnow. When the weather permits, we break out the Fly Rod and try to catch some on the “String”! This past week the majority of fish we saw were quite finicky, but we found several schools of Redfish that crushed Cut Bait. After catching several Reds on Cut Bait we transitioned over to an Artificial Bait, and caught some grown ones!
